Attention: all men and women, take cover! Throws are long and hit softly.
This year, International Pillow Fight Day, or Public Pillow Fight Day, is taking place on April 1st, and calls on all throwers and fighters to throw and hit pillows. But be careful, because anyone throwing feather pillows can quickly end up looking like a plucked chicken if the pillow bursts.
Hit it!
This international holiday, which is always scheduled for the first Saturday in April, has existed since 2008. Whether in Copenhagen, Berlin, London, or even Amsterdam – the pillow-throwing event has already taken place in many different locations. This flash mob event, usually lasting 20 minutes, is publicized through various channels. People from various locations meet at a public square at a set time and, at a certain signal, release their pillows. A lot of fun is guaranteed.
Everything in excess
I'm reassured that it's only pillows and not entire blankets. If I imagine having to throw or flick my duvet, I'd need a lot of arm strength. The sheer length of my duvet would make throwing it difficult. Do you feel the same? As a tall person, you simply need everything in larger sizes. From duvets to clothes to entire pieces of furniture.
Not only is my duvet oversized at 2.20 m, but my bed, at 2.30 m long, is also not the standard size available. But: as you make your bed, so you lie in it.
Nothing is more annoying than sleeping in a hotel bed that's too short. Your feet either hit the edge of the bed or dangle over the edge, turning your toes blue. I remember this experience all too well from my time in youth hostels during school trips.
Aim high
Wardrobes can also do with a bit of height if you're already that tall. This can be taken advantage of, as the top shelves can usually be reached without a ladder.
Another good example of custom dimensions is the kitchen. The height of a kitchen counter plays a crucial role for me. For everyday kitchen tasks, it's simply much more comfortable to cut fruit and vegetables at a higher countertop than to squat because the countertop is too low. That makes washing up more enjoyable, too. Speaking of too low:
High seat
Even with the toilet, height plays an important role. A higher porcelain bowl is a welcome relief. Sitting is simply more comfortable 😉 and it's also easier on the knees. However, for the comfort of guests, the ceramic seat shouldn't be too high, otherwise it can quickly become a problem for smaller guests.
Another example: a desk and office chair. Anyone who sits a lot every day should have a good body ratio between their desk and chair. The correct seat height, leg angle, and forearm position play a hugely important role. Incorrect adjustments often lead to neck and back problems. It's no wonder, then, that so-called ergonomic sitting is also promoted by companies and health insurance companies.
Popcorn lying on your back
And while we're on the subject of seating, the sofa immediately comes to mind. Body proportions vary greatly among tall people. For example, I have quite long legs and a normal torso length. It might be the same for you, or even the other way around—long torso, shorter legs. Couch potatoes who want to be comfortable should have found the right sofa for them. It's important to me that I can lean my head back and it doesn't fall over the backrest like it does in an airplane. Only then can I achieve the comfort I need for a good movie with delicious popcorn.
As you can see, adjusting furniture to our height is crucial for some of the conveniences in life. We can make many things easier by choosing the right size right from the start. A few centimeters make many everyday tasks easier for us tall people.
