With lots of Aalaf and Helau, the carnival revelers usually set off on Shrove Monday into the colorful world of colors and costumes. There is a lot of laughter, celebration and dancing on the streets, in restaurants and at the carnival meetings. The program includes spoken contributions that take politics to task, musical performances, and dance interludes.
Not Rio, but Cologne
Have you ever attended a meeting?
A few years ago I was a guest at a carnival in Cologne. A performance by the “Höhner” was of course part of the program. A Cologne band that quickly brought the atmosphere in the hall to boiling point. The entire hall was beside itself. There was a truly exceptional atmosphere that was carefree and happy.
Afterwards, the Women's Carnival parade continued on to the street carnival. A tradition that has been celebrated since the Middle Ages. Women were granted power for one day. What an attraction! Thank God we women nowadays still have the right to Power. 😉
A secretary can also be a devil
For us northerners, celebrating carnival is rather untypical. Our municipal carnival guard, which pays our mayor a visit in the town hall every year, is unfortunately very small in terms of personnel. Our beautiful city is simply not a carnival stronghold.
Nevertheless, I love carnival! Even as a child, I was always happy when there was a state of emergency at school. Whether as the charming Jeannie, the funny clown or even as Pippi Longstocking. Every year I excitedly looked for a new costume.
Carnival is simply a great invention! You can slip into all kinds of costumes and have a really wild party. Whether you're an angel, devil, princess or stewardess, no matter who else you are, anything is allowed at Carnival.
Sure, as a tall woman you are more likely to be noticed when you are dressed in bright colours, but I don't mind. Quite the opposite. Think of the advantages: If you like watching the parades from the side of the road in Cologne, Mainz or Düsseldorf, you can look over everyone else and miss nothing. And the flying candy is easily your own.
Which costume suits a tall woman? Basically any, I think. It depends on the It's not about the size, but about the disguise. However, there are costumes that emphasize the size and simply make you look sexy. I'm not talking about a giraffe or a lighthouse. But a majorette with long legs or a big cat looks very good. A tall woman is also an eye-catcher as a Charleston dancer or pirate's bride. Anything that you like is allowed. That's the beauty of carnival.
Grandiose performance
Transvestites make a magnificent appearance not only - but also - during carnival time. They are often very tall men with endlessly long, slender legs who celebrate their entrance in the most dazzling women's costumes. Their costumes and make-up are a true work of art. Being seen plays a particularly important role.
For me, this is a very good example of how self-confident one can be in life and not have to be ashamed of anything. Every person is an individual, an independent personality, something special. So be brave and show who and how you are. Isn't there a dazzling character inside each of us, waiting to be let loose?
You have this opportunity every day, not just at Carnival. Dress up in your personal favorite costume and just be crazy.
Your Pam
