The equality of women, which is becoming more and more widespread - whether in politics, business or the family. We women no longer have to subordinate ourselves and let men decide - we are now (self-)determiners and have our right to have a say. So different from the 1950s, when women were not even able to get a driver's license as easily as they can today (men probably already realized back then that we women are simply better drivers and therefore didn't want to let anyone take the wheel out of their hands. 😉 ).

Nothing happens without money

But one thing still strikes me: men often earn more money than women in comparable jobs. There is now even a term for the so-called gender-specific wage gap: gender pay gap. According to reports, according to statistics collected every four years, women earn 6% less gross than their male colleagues with the same professional qualifications! You can find an interesting report on this at  https://www.jobteaser.com/de/advices/407-gender-pay-gap-warum-verdienen-maenner-mehr-als-frauen

In brief

Or let's think about going to the hairdresser, which is usually more expensive for women than for men. OK, I admit that when it comes to perming, coloring, washing, cutting and blow-drying long women's hair, the effort involved in taming the magnificent hair on your head is certainly much higher. But what is the reason why a short haircut is more expensive for women than for men?  According to the Anti-Discrimination Agency, 97% of hair salons charge higher prices for women than for men - for comparable haircuts. "Gender pricing" is the new term that deals with these issues: https://mitvergnuegen.com/2019/gender-pricing-friseur/

Who knows, maybe the time we women have to talk at the hairdresser's is already factored in. As men are known to say little (some say no more than 2000 words a day), they leave the salon quicker and the space can be filled by someone else.

Everything for men

The same applies to personal hygiene. As a tall woman, I definitely use more body lotion than short women because I have a larger area to apply cream to. But when I compare the prices of men's products, I can't understand why they are cheaper. The same applies to shaving foam, razors and other things: https://www.nw.de/lokal/kreis_guetersloh/guetersloh/22396501_Rasierer-Deo-und-Co.-Zahlen-Frauen-wirklich-mehr-als-Maenner.html

Multi-tasking talent

Why are we women financially disadvantaged in many areas, even though we often do the same work and even more? In addition to our jobs, many of us also have to organize household and family. We women already run a "small, successful family business," as one advertisement once aptly put it. The financial disadvantage in many areas is not fair.

Length and size matter

But I also notice discrimination in other areas - especially for us tall women. For example, when it comes to clothing. I often experience that there is not enough choice of trousers in my height. For a tall man, this is no problem.

Shoes are the next example. Tall woman - big foot, otherwise we would probably fall over. But finding a nice shoe in a large size? Very difficult. I just experienced it myself. I live on feet that are almost normal for my size: 42 to 43 at 1.86 m. I was madly in love with a pair of pink pumps and unfortunately found that they weren't available in my size. Not sold out, but not even produced. Sure, you might think that such a huge shoe looks strange. But you have to look at the proportions. Tall woman, big foot, big shoe. A tall woman with a small shoe size would look a bit strange.

Shoes are also not a problem for tall men. Men generally don't wear pumps, but sneakers. There have been a few times when I have opted for a men's sneaker rather than an ugly women's model in size 43.

I admit that basketball players with shoe size 54 don't have a huge selection either, but there is now a separate market for this.

Another example: bicycles. Tall woman, long legs, large frame. There is a sufficient choice of large bikes for men, but I have not yet noticed such a choice for women. I actually ride a men's bike because of the size.

Wishful thinking

Admittedly, the economy is now changing its mind. We tall women are no longer comparable to rare aliens. But progress is still very slow in some areas. So, for International Women's Day, I specifically wish for more choice in the future!
