And just like that, New Year's Eve is over, and the new year begins. Like every year, there are new resolutions, goals, and dreams that need to be achieved, broken, or postponed. Every one of you probably knows this. Besides health, one of the most important goals is physical fitness and well-being. When it comes to physical fitness, several sports come to mind that I enjoy and keep me fit, as long as I pursue them seriously. Not every sport is suitable for us tall women.
Splits or pirouette
Artistic gymnastics or figure skating are more beneficial for younger women. I can still do the splits, but doing a backflip over the parallel bars or being twirled through the air with a somersault by the male figure skater is certainly a major challenge—for both me and the male skater.
Flying balls and floating butterflies
Classic examples of tall women's sports are certainly basketball, volleyball, and handball. Tennis, badminton, and squash are also well-suited for tall women simply because of our reach.
While I enjoy a game of tennis or basketball now and then, my personal preference clearly lies in swimming. While the amplitudes in the dolphin or butterfly stroke are different than for shorter people, they are no less effective or fast. Front crawl and backstroke are also well-suited to my height. I admit, the roll turns are certainly not as agile for us tall people, but for me, swimming training is primarily about physical fitness and not about participating in competitions, which I have certainly participated in and won. So, it's also possible to do roll turns that aren't quite as agile. 😉
Running frenzy
In my younger years, I was at home in track and field. Another sport that I find excellent for us tall women in some disciplines. While long-distance running wasn't really my ambition, it was, like sprinting, long jump, and high jump, disciplines where our long legs are worth their weight in gold.
What to do, said Zeus
Physical activity is always good; it promotes well-being and our health. However, factors such as age and existing physical fitness also play a major role in choosing the right sport. Haven't found the right activity for you yet? This article from FitForFun might help you find the right sport.
A dose of motivation, please
One thing that shouldn't be missing from any New Year's resolutions is a necessary dose of motivation. If you'd like to do your own home workout, free from fixed training times, one of the numerous fitness apps is certainly a good fit. For example, I'm an avowed fan of my namesake Pamela Reif's fitness app. Her fitness app, PAM, offers various workouts, recipes, and a blog with helpful tips. Especially during these coronavirus times, the trend toward home workouts has grown enormously. If you've decided to try this type of exercise, always pay attention to the correct execution of the exercises. A little but correctly is more effective than a quick but incorrect workout!
Calm, calmer, yoga
If you prefer a more relaxed but equally intense approach, yoga or Pilates are a good option. Yoga offers various forms of physical fitness. If you're interested in yoga, check out my articles on different types of yoga. You can find them at chapmag.de .
Yoga is one of the sports that keeps the body supple and flexible, while also promoting inner peace and contemplation, allowing you to rediscover your inner self. Especially in today's often stressful times, yoga can help you unwind and do something good for yourself.
The bastard is as meek as a lamb
Whether it's yoga, fitness workouts, running, swimming, or even ball sports: all of these sporting activities help us tall women maintain our fitness and well-being. If you feel good and physically fit, you radiate this. You may have to overcome your inner demons first and develop a routine for yourself. But once you've conquered your inner demons, you can enter the battle with confidence. And believe me, at the end of every workout, you'll be beaming with happiness – that's all thanks to the serotonin, our happy hormones, released during exercise.
With that in mind: Be brave, girls, and just get going!
Sporty greetings
Pam
