I like popcorn

What pops better than popcorn? Popcorn Day is celebrated in the USA on January 19th. While it's not a recognized holiday in Germany, you can still celebrate it for yourself if you're a popcorn lover like me. There's nothing like a good movie with a large portion of popcorn in your lap. Those are two ways I reward myself. When was the last time you went to the movies?

Elvis and me

I remember it vividly. As a fanatical Elvis fan, I recently went to the cinema with my partner and my best friends and watched the English version of the Elvis film. With popcorn, of course!

... true to the fifties, I strolled into the cinema wearing my rolled-up blue jeans, a matching knotted blouse, and ballet flats. In the fifties, many women wore petticoats, which looked simply stunning. But women in jeans or Marlene trousers were also increasingly seen. The rock n' roll era brought new trends – including in fashion.

The film was so fantastic that I saw it two more times in the German version... The English cinema version impresses with the incredibly authentic voices of the main characters; it's definitely worth seeing and hearing.

Full marks

For me, as a tall woman, the often polka-dotted petticoat is less of a consideration; my long legs are more visible in skinny jeans. I simply feel more comfortable in my jeans. In the polka-dotted petticoat, I look more like an oversized ladybug. Long jeans combined with a cute blouse and matching lace pumps or ballet flats look just as good, if not even better for a tall woman like me.

Little blondes with a big impact

Looking back seventy years, you can see that in the 1950s, the problem of tall women didn't even exist. Marlene Dietrich, for example, looked long-legged and slim in photos in her famous suit and top hat. In reality, she was "only" 1.68 m tall. My favorite actress, Marilyn Monroe, also looks rather long-legged and tall in many pictures. She, too, was only 1.68 m tall. This shows that back then, there weren't the same problems as today. Women with particularly tall bodies. Therefore, there wasn't the problem of jeans that had to be long enough to fit a woman.

Sooner or later

These days, women's leg lengths vary from short to long. Nowadays, you can find jeans in all sizes, from short to long, in all variations, fabric densities, and fits. Langehosen.de offers a good selection.

Men's legs have also long been different in nature. The male world also offers everything from short to long legs. Men in the 1950s had a different height range. Elvis was 1.82 m tall, while James Dean was only 1.73 m tall. That's rather short by today's standards. A total of 26 percent of German men today are between 1.75 m and 1.79 m tall, which is within the average height range.

Elvis may have been American, but he was already considered one of the taller guys back then. And yet, even he could still roll up his jeans, as old pictures of them show in the cool rock 'n' roll style. So, the inventor of jeans, Levi Strauss, laid the foundation for long trousers during his lifetime. It's all the more wonderful that many well-known manufacturers like Mavi, Mac, Cross Jeans, and Mustang have revived the trend, bringing joy to both long-legged and short-legged wearers.

With that in mind, have fun wearing your jeans, and who knows, maybe we'll see you at the next movie. 🍿

Pop greetings

Your Pam
